Written by Munshi Premchand, this is a story in which an editor lives in a town away from his wife and spends his days and nights happily. After many days, one day his wife insists on coming to him and writes a letter requesting him. The editor does not want to call her and in reply to the letters he tries to escape by giving excuses of his difficulties and problems. This continues and one day his wife comes to him without informing him and his lie is caught.

According to the story of the play ‘Asamanjas Babu ‘, in this society, only that thing is given importance which is out of the box and this play also highlights such an aspect. The character of this play, Asamanjas Babu, became isolated from the society due to his out of the box thinking, because he emphasizes on thoughts and not faith, worries about the future and not the past, talks about humans instead of God. He believes that new things cannot be created without destruction. Due to such thinking, Asamanjas Babu never got along with anyone, neither with his teacher, nor with his father, nor with his friend, nor with his neighbor and due to this reason Asamanjas Babu became lonely and in this darkness of loneliness, a dog showed him the way, guided him, became his Guru, whom people also called Asamanjas Babu’s dog.

The struggle between the traditional depiction and present condition is quite troublesome for male folk to deal with. The play is fluid and changes adopting recent contexts and incidents.

Synopsis of Trishna

Trishna intertwines two mythical tales—those of Meera and Madhavi—through a dialogue-driven narrative that reveals the striking similarities between their lives. It presents two perspectives of a single story, allowing for a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of their journeys.

The play explores the concept of the soul as eternal and indestructible. While the body perishes, the soul transcends, carrying its desires from one life to another. Madhavi and Meera are portrayed as reflections of each other, inseparable in essence. Though born in different eras and places, their lives, struggles, circumstances, and eventual fates mirror each other.

Meera is widely known as a devotee and worshiper of Krishna. But how did she become so deeply devoted to him, placing Krishna above all else in her life? The answers lie in the life of Madhavi, who lived centuries before Meera.

Madhavi, after her marriage, was on her way to Gokul Dham when Krishna appeared to see her face. However, upon her refusal, Krishna vowed never to reveal his face to her. This incident led Madhavi to develop a deep longing for Krishna, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not see him. Tormented by this unfulfilled desire, she ultimately gave up her life.

Centuries later, Meera was born into a life of similar struggles. Caught between the external world and her inner self, she found no solace or fulfillment. Her only refuge was in her devotion to Krishna. Unable to meet the expectations of her family and in-laws, she left her home and wandered, singing praises of Krishna. Like Madhavi, Meera eventually gave up her body, longing for Krishna’s presence.

The play suggests that Madhavi’s wandering soul, seeking union with Krishna, may have entered Meera’s body. Meera’s longing for Krishna could be seen as the continuation of Madhavi’s unfulfilled yearning, with Meera living out the penance for Madhavi’s unfulfilled desires.

Trishna uses a blend of poetic expressions and conversational language to enhance its beauty. Additionally, elements of the Rajasthani dialect are incorporated, adding depth and authenticity to the characters.
