Big screen. Big stakes. Big feelings. This weekend’s lineup is a vibrant blend of cosmic adventure, earthy drama, emotional heft, and timeless romance – all waiting to be experienced with a live audience, only at PVR INOX.
• FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS
The first family of Marvel is back – and this time, they’re not tied to any universe baggage. Director Matt Shakman reimagines Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben with a retro-futuristic edge, casting Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby in a surprisingly heartfelt reboot. There’s scale, sure (Galactus and Silver Surfer aren’t here to play), but what shines through is the emotional core. A story of chosen family, scientific wonder, and raising a super-powered toddler (yep, Franklin Richards is here). It’s Marvel, but more grounded – and totally worth catching on the biggest screen possible.
• MAAREESAN
Fahadh Faasil meets Vadivelu in this Tamil oddball thriller-comedy that plays like a road trip with a conscience. Directed by Sudheesh Sankar, the film begins slow but morphs into a sharp, socially aware ride laced with deadpan humour. Kamal Haasan calls it “witty and relevant” – and he’s not wrong. Think moral ambiguity, layered laughs, and plenty of roadside metaphors. If you’re in the mood for something offbeat but smart, this one lands the punch (eventually).
• THALAIVAN THALAIVII
Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen bring both comfort and chaos in this warm family drama-meets-rom-com directed by Pandiraj. The setup? A parotta master, a strong-willed wife, and a string of domestic misadventures that unfold with gentle humour and bursts of emotion. Yogi Babu adds the laughs, while the chemistry between the leads keeps things tender. It’s a story that doesn’t shout – it simply feels lived in. Familiar in all the best ways.
• HARI HARA VEERA MALLU: PART 1 – SWORD VS SPIRIT
Pawan Kalyan steps into legend mode with this grand historical epic about a rebel who dares to steal the Koh-i-Noor from the Mughal empire. The film charges ahead with scale, drama, and old-school heroism – from palace intrigue to sweeping sword fights. It’s a world of high stakes, defiance, and visual splendour, where history meets cinematic spectacle. Go for the drama, stay for the swagger.
• MAHAVATAR NARASIMHA
Marking the beginning of the Mahavatar series, this animated epic vividly brings to life the tale of Lord Narasimha – the fierce avatar of Vishnu who defeats the demon king Hiranyakashyapu. Hiranyakashyap seeks revenge on Vishnu and declares himself a god, but his son Prahlad remains devoted. Vishnu manifests as Narasimha to defeat the demon and restore cosmic balance. Directed by Ashwin Kumar and distributed by Hombale Films, the film blends bhakti with big-screen spectacle. it’s not just about visual scale but about emotion and tradition rendered with reverence. A sincere, striking fusion of mythology and modern animation that truly belongs on the big screen.
• PRIDE & PREJUDICE (20TH ANNIVERSARY RE-RELEASE)
Before Bridgerton, there was this. Joe Wright’s sweeping, candlelit adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel returns to the big screen, reminding us why it still sets the bar for period romance. Keira Knightley’s spirited Lizzie and Matthew Macfadyen’s quietly aching Mr Darcy lead a cast that captures every glance, tension, and unspoken word. From the chaotic Bennet household to that unforgettable misty field, it’s all just as breathtaking – and even more so in a theatre. Let the longing linger.
