Indian Actor Ritika Shrotri Set to Perform Solo Play ‘The Light Catcher’ at Camden Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025

Mumbai, 31 July 2025: Indian actor and theatre artist Ritika Shrotri is set to take her solo theatrical performance, The Light Catcher, to international audiences this August with scheduled shows at the Camden Fringe in London and the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025. The play marks a significant milestone as it is one of the rare solo performances from India to feature at these global platforms, particularly at Edinburgh Fringe, which is known for showcasing some of the most innovative and independent theatre from around the world.

The Light Catcher is a one-woman production in which Shrotri brings to life ten distinct characters on stage, weaving together a narrative that is both intimate and expansive. Through this play, she explores the complexities of memory, identity, and human emotion, all while transitioning seamlessly between characters with minimal props or costume changes. The performance is deeply reliant on the strength of her craft, with the focus remaining squarely on storytelling and character transformation. The play has already received recognition within Indian theatre circuits, having been showcased at National School of Drama’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav and officially selected for NSDF UK, underlining its cross-cultural relevance and artistic merit.

Ritika Shrotri, who has previously worked in popular Indian films such as Meenakshi Sundareshwar on Netflix and Bucket List, where she played the role of Madhuri Dixit’s daughter, has consistently balanced her work across film and theatre. Her leading roles in Marathi films like Sari and Darling, and her upcoming appearance in Raid 2, reflect a career that has spanned both mainstream and independent projects. However, theatre remains a foundational part of her artistic journey. Shrotri’s theatre experience includes performing in over fifteen plays across English, Hindi, and Marathi languages, with a special focus on character-driven narratives and solo storytelling formats. Her previous solo performances have also been part of the Edinburgh Fringe and NSDF UK official selections, demonstrating her ability to navigate both regional and international stages with ease.

What makes The Light Catcher particularly significant is its contribution to expanding Indian representation in international solo theatre, a space that has traditionally seen limited participation from young Indian artists. Shrotri’s performance not only showcases her versatility as an actor but also highlights the growing appetite for cross-border storytelling that transcends language and cultural barriers. The play’s UK tour begins with performances at London’s Camden Fringe on August 10 and 11, followed by its run at Edinburgh Fringe from August 18 to 23 at TheSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall. Audiences can expect a thought-provoking and emotionally charged experience that invites them to engage with complex personal narratives through a minimalist yet impactful performance style.

Ritika Shrotri, now 24, continues to be part of a generation of Indian artists redefining performance boundaries by seamlessly integrating work across film, theatre, and digital platforms. With The Light Catcher, she brings a personal and culturally nuanced voice to the global theatre landscape, offering a unique perspective shaped by her experiences in both mainstream cinema and experimental stage work.
