June 1 : Now streaming on Prime Video, Nicholas Cage starrer Spider-Noir brings a darker and more mature take on the Spider-Man universe, following a private investigator navigating crime-ridden 1930s New York. The series has been met with strong praise from audiences and critics worldwide for its distinctive noir aesthetic and fresh spin on the Spider-Man mythos. For showrunner and executive producer Oren Uziel, whose previous credits include The Lost City, 22 Jump Street and Mortal Kombat, the series offered the chance to combine several of his favourite storytelling worlds into one project.
Speaking about what drew him to the series, Uziel said,
“I first got involved through the producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal. I’ve worked with all of them in the past and always had a great experience. I loved that the project was a live action Spider-Man, I loved that it was set in New York in the 1930s and most of all I loved that it was rooted in the Noir genre. I’ve always been a huge fan of film noir, from the classics straight through the neo-noirs of the past 30, 40, 50 years and counting, so I saw ‘Spider-Noir’ as a magical opportunity to stake my claim to this particular corner of the larger Marvel universe.”
Uziel also explained how the series sets itself apart from previous Spider-Man adaptations through its central character. “This version of The Spider is different from other on-screen interpretations of Spider-Man in many ways. For starters, he’s called The Spider instead of Spider-Man. He’s also called Ben Reilly instead of Peter Parker. And lastly but most importantly, he’s a lot older than any previous iteration we’ve seen before. This is an adult. A guy who drinks, smokes and isn’t afraid to fight dirty. A guy who has been through hell and back and lived, barely, to tell the tale.”
This series stars Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage in the lead role, alongside Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Abraham Popoola, Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. The guest cast includes Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video, the series has Harry Bradbeer serving as director and executive producer on the first two episodes, with Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot as co-showrunners and executive producers. Spider-Noir is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video across India and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and can be experienced in both authentic black-and-white and true-hue full colour.
