SPIC MACAY & Sunder Nursery presents Carnatic Vocal Recital by Vidwan Sikkil Gurucharan

New Delhi, June 11 : SPIC MACAY and Sunder Nursery have joined hands to launch an exciting public outreach initiative in the capital with the aim of promoting cultural awareness among the general public. This collaboration, named Sangeet Sudha, features regular monthly programs of classical music and dance in the newly opened, state-of-the-art auditorium inside the World Heritage Site Museum of Humayun’s Tomb.

As part of the same initiative, Sangeet Sudha will feature Vidwan Sikkil Gurucharan for a Carnatic Vocal Recital. Accompanying him will be Vidwan Sanjeev V. on Violin, Vidwan N. C. Bharadwaj on Mridangam, and Shri M. Sridhar on Tanpura. This programme will provide a wonderful opportunity to experience the richness, depth, and beauty of Carnatic classical music. The programme is scheduled for 12th June 2026 at 4:30 PM.

Reviving Delhi’s Cultural Landscape: SPIC MACAY has a long history of collaborating with like-minded organizations and government bodies such as the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, NDMC, and municipal corporations across India to organize classical music and dance programs for the public throughout the country. While SPIC MACAY’s primary focus has been on organizing programs in educational institutions for students, this partnership at the World Heritage Site Museum of Humayun’s Tomb and the Sunder Nursery Garden Amphitheatre, an initiative of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, is a significant expansion of SPIC MACAY’s mission and will engage wider audiences with India’s rich culture and vibrant heritage.

Sudha Sangini Foundation: This initiative has been further strengthened by the support of Sudha Sangini, a renowned organisation dedicated to working with various sections of society, including tribal women and environmental initiatives.

Vidwan Sikkil Gurucharan

Vidwan Sikkil Gurucharan is one of the foremost vocalists of contemporary Carnatic music and a widely respected ambassador of the tradition among younger generations. Belonging to the illustrious Sikkil musical lineage, he has earned recognition for his rich musicality, thoughtful interpretation of compositions, and ability to balance classical rigor with artistic innovation.

A Top Grade artist of All India Radio, Gurucharan is a prominent presence during the Chennai music season and has received several prestigious honours, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Kalaimamani, and Shanmukha Sironmani. While deeply rooted in the traditional concert paddhati, he has also collaborated with internationally acclaimed musicians, exploring new artistic possibilities while preserving the essence of Carnatic music.

His collaborative album Miles from India was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album at the 51st Grammy Awards. A recipient of the Nehru-Fulbright Excellence Award, he was artist-in-residence at the University of California, Davis in 2015. Recognised by India Today among India’s “35 Game Changers Under 35,” Gurucharan has also contributed to acclaimed films such as Sarvam Thaala Mayam and Putham Pudhu Kaalai. Through his performances, teaching, and artistic collaborations, he continues to expand the reach of Carnatic music while remaining firmly anchored in its rich tradition.

Vidwan Sanjeev Venkataramanan

Vidwan Sanjeev Venkataramanan is a distinguished carnatic violinist and a disciple of the renowned violin maestro Sangita Kalanidhi Kum. A. Kanyakumari. Since his debut performance in 1994, he has established himself as a highly respected accompanist and solo performer, admired for his technical finesse, tonal clarity, and sensitive musical expression.

An ‘A’ Grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Sanjeev Venkataramanan is a regular performer at the prestigious December Music Festival in Chennai and other leading music sabhas across India. His nuanced accompaniment, precision, and deep understanding of the Carnatic tradition have made him a sought-after collaborator for many of the country’s foremost musicians.

Vidwan N. C. Bharadwaj

Vidwan N. C. Bharadwaj is a distinguished mridangam artiste who began his musical training at a very young age and later received advanced guidance from the legendary Padma Vibhushan and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. Renowned for his rhythmic precision, tonal clarity, and dynamic accompaniment, he has emerged as one of the leading percussionists of his generation.

An ‘A’ Grade artiste of All India Radio, Chennai, Bharadwaj has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Guru Karaikudi Mani Memorial Award, Vani Kala Nipuna, Yuva Kala Bharathi, and the Best Mridangam Artiste Award from the Madras Music Academy. He performs regularly with eminent Carnatic musicians across India and has represented Indian classical music at concerts and festivals around the world.
