Guwahati, May 12, 2025: On National Technology Day, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., reiterates its commitment to innovation-driven growth, highlighting how advanced technologies are shaping the future of India’s energy sector – especially in the remote and geologically complex Northeast region. From LiDAR drone surveys to AI-powered safety systems and real-time digital monitoring, Cairn is demonstrating that the path to energy security is as much about smart technology as it is about natural resources.
Traditionally known for its reliance on heavy engineering, the oil and gas industry is undergoing a digital renaissance. Cairn is leading this change with the integration of Industry 4.0 tools, AI/ML, and data-driven platforms that are driving efficiency, safety, and sustainability across its operations.
One of the most innovative strides made recently is the first-ever LiDAR drone survey in one of Cairn’s operational areas in Northeast India. This remote and hilly region poses logistical and environmental challenges – but by deploying Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) via drones, Cairn has not only reduced operational risks and material costs, but also accelerated infrastructure planning with high-resolution 3D mapping. When paired with AI/ML algorithms, the data enables smarter civil engineering decisions, especially for road construction and rig movement.
Cairn is also enhancing field operations with InterACT, a secure web-based platform that brings real-time reservoir and wellsite data to the fingertips of experts across the globe. With features like configurable alerts, secure access, and WITS/WITSML compatibility, InterACT ensures quicker decision-making, streamlined workflows, and enhanced safety – all from a laptop or mobile screen.
Taking workplace safety to the next level, Cairn has introduced an AI-Based Safety Surveillance System at its HZ-01 well pad in the region. This system, integrated with live CCTV feeds, detects unsafe acts and conditions in real time—triggering immediate alerts and enabling swift preventive action.
As Northeast India continues to emerge as a strategic energy frontier, Cairn’s efforts underscore a broader commitment to environmentally responsible, technology-led development. By embracing innovation, the company is ensuring that growth in the region is not only swift, but also safe and sustainable—paving the way for energy independence in the years to come.
