The screening featured the rare documentary co-created by Tarkovsky and renowned Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra during the filming of Nostalghia in Italy—a film that offers profound insight into the spiritual and philosophical questions Tarkovsky grappled with during his years in exile.

Following the screening, Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, engaged in a stimulating conversation with Tarkovskiy. The discussion explored Tarkovsky’s creative process, his enduring philosophical vision, and his deep connection with Italy.

Reflecting on his father’s experience of shooting in Italy, Tarkovskiy noted that Nostalghia was more than a film—it was an expression of longing and cultural dialogue. He also shared personal anecdotes about working on his own documentary, Cinema as a Prayer, an intimate cinematic homage to Tarkovsky. “His vision feels even more prophetic now, and I find myself in harmony with his words and ideas.”

The event was attended by cinephiles, cultural enthusiasts, and students who were deeply moved by the post-screening conversation. Anastasio emphasized the Centre’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange: “Culture is what you inherit—and what you create through interaction. These events are about creating bridges across geographies through art and dialogue.”

Other highlights of the programme:
