Karan Johar Conquered the Met. Now Amul Has Made It Official

Karan Johar‘s Met Gala debut has earned him perhaps the most quintessentially Indian seal of approval – an Amul topical. The iconic dairy brand, known for its witty illustrated tributes to India’s most culturally significant moments, celebrated Johar‘s historic appearance at the 2026 Met Gala with a topical that captures his show-stopping Manish Malhotra designed outfit in full illustrated glory, complete with the tagline: “Gala Mein Toh Sahab Ban Gaya!” – and the brand’s signature sign-off, “Always In Fashion.”

What made the moment even more resonant was what Johar chose to carry onto that carpet. His custom Manish Malhotra creation, titled ‘Framed in Eternity’, was a deeply personal tribute to Raja Ravi Varma, the 19th century painter widely regarded as the father of modern Indian art. Hand-painted across 86 days by over 80 karigars, the look was India in every sense: its art, its craft, its heritage, and its hands. For a country that has long known the depth of its own cultural legacy, seeing it finally receive its due on the world’s most watched fashion stage was a moment of quiet, collective pride.

Johar himself reacted to the topical on Instagram with a twist on his iconic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham dialogue and stated – “Amul ne Keh Diya, Bas Keh Diya.” A line that said everything, with exactly the lightness and wit that only he could pull off.

For over five decades, an Amul topical has been an unofficial barometer of what has truly captured India’s imagination. Joining that canon, Karan Johar becomes the first Indian filmmaker to attend the Met Gala and to be immortalised by the Amul girl for it. Two firsts. One very proud moment.
