June 30 : Ahmed Khan’s Welcome To The Jungle has been mounted on a budget of Rs.125 crore, as per trade estimates, out of which a mass chunk of the expense has been invested into the film’s shoot, with production costs amounting to Rs.60 crore. Considering the film’s grand scale, huge ensemble and action sequence, the amount mirrors an approach to strike a balance between on-screen spectacle and financial discipline.
Among the many talking points about Welcome To The Jungle, what also stands out is Akshay Kumar‘s remuneration model. Instead of charging an acting fee, the actor chose a backend arrangement, agreeing to take no salary and instead coming on board on a profit–sharing basis.
The cost of the cast was decided at Rs.35 crore, a figure that is considerably lower than what would be ideally expected from a film featuring a grand cast. One of the main reasons for this was Kumar‘s decision to forgo an acting fee. Adding to this, the technical crew and director’s fee accounted for Rs.15 crore, with Rs.15 crore segregated for print and publicity, taking the entire cost of production to Rs.125 crore.
The fascinating element of the film’s financial structure? The backend deal where Akshay Kumar connected his earnings to the profits churned after the producers recover what’s invested. So far, the film has made an excellent collection of Rs.94.63 crore at the worldwide box office.
