Sep 07: MX Original Playground Season 5 is officially entering its no-friends, no-favourites phase, with team loyalty beginning to look more like a liability than a safety net. As contestants scramble to save themselves, old equations are cracking, new loyalties are being questioned and the mentors themselves find their patience running thin. From a full-blown grilling of the house to a fiery mentor face-off, a high-stakes Rumbles Dash and a double elimination, the game is no longer just about winning, it is about who can survive when everyone starts playing for themselves.
With Mannat already feeling the heat and the danger around her growing, she appears to be making amends and trying to get back in the good books of those around her. But is this a genuine change of heart or a calculated attempt to secure her place before the axe falls? That question gets even louder when the mentors enter the house, except this time, they aren’t sitting comfortably in their usual spots. They walk straight into the middle of the contestants, making it clear that they have come to settle some scores.
Aarush sets the tone with “Ab lag raha hai apni sahi jagah pe bethe hai hum”, while Tejasswi throws in, “Waise bhi kuch logo ko ltoh agta hai hum yaha pe unke saath contestants hi bane hai toh phir yehi bethna”. Elvish then delivers the warning shot: “Toh ek kaam karte hai un logoko unki asli jaagh pe bithe dete hai”. What follows is less a routine mentor intervention and more a reckoning, with Mannat called forward and Chakshdeep asked to join her as the mentors begin pulling apart the behaviour that has pushed the house to breaking point.
Aarush brings up Mannat breaking glasses last week. When she attempts to explain that she is simply expressive, he draws a hard line, calling it “batammezi”. He doesn’t stop there, telling her, “Aur pehele to samajh aa raha tha hum jab pichli baar aye the aapne players ko gaali baki, hai iss baar toh aapne seedha show ko gaali baki hai”. Elvish also calls out the disrespect directed towards the mentors, particularly Tejasswi and Aarush, leaving Mannat with little choice but to apologise. But once the mentors have opened the floodgates, everyone is fair game.
The grilling soon widens beyond Mannat, as Tejasswi questions Simar for keeping her in the dark about Ridey’s possible exit, while Aarush calls out Chakshdeep for questioning the show and Prateik for putting his own team on the Hit List. The tension then spills into the mentors’ own banter, with Tejasswi advising, “Be the king don’t be a kingmaker”, only for Elvish to fire back, “Be the queen” and add, “Yeh thodhi misogynist hai, main nahi hoon.” Even the light-hearted jabs continue when Tejasswi is asked who her team needs most, prompting Elvish to quip, “Ek ache mentor ki”, before she hits back, “Woh apni reel katwane ki subah se koshish kar raha hai”. What starts as a grilling of the contestants quickly turns into a larger reckoning over loyalty, strategy and who is really playing for whom.
The Resource Hub twist raises the stakes before the Rumbles Dash, with Mannat and Chakshdeep choosing the envelope while Simran and Rhea take the briefcase, only to discover that Rhea and Simran’s elimination chances have increased by 50%. The tension carries into the Dash when Vansh’s laid-back approach to the IRL draws Elvish’s ire, leading him to remark, “Ladkiyan chala rahi hai yeh…”. Tejasswi immediately hits back, “What do you mean by ladkiyan chala rahi hai”, and when Elvish responds, she firmly tells him, “You don’t talk to me like that”.
The Rumbles Dash sees Simar emerge as the top individual performer, but it is the Power Phoenixes who clinch the team victory. With the power now in their hands, Aarush teams up with Elvish to strip Madhuja of 2M Rumbles, a move that leaves Tejasswi feeling singled out and Rhea breaking down as the Raging Centaurs find themselves repeatedly pushed into the firing line. Seeing her team bear the brunt of Elvish’s moves, Tejasswi tells Rhea, “Elvish kya kar raha hai tujhe dikh raha hai na, har baar humein Pehele bhej raha hai, the way he talks like I don’t know what the insecurity is”.
But the fallout is only the beginning, as the danger zone puts Simran and Rhea on the brink. Even with Simran willing to give up her own spot for Rhea, the house chooses to save her, sending Rhea out of the game. The second elimination pits Madhuja against Vikaash, with contestants able to spend 1M Rumbles for an extra vote, forcing loyalties to come into play once again. When the dust settles, Vikaash is eliminated. With the game now narrowing down, the race for the finale kicks into high gear as Vansh and Prateik go head-to-head for the first Grand Finalist spot, each backed by three supporters. Prateik ultimately comes out on top, securing the first place in the finale and leaving just four spots up for grabs. With every move now carrying even greater weight, the question is -who will be the next to make the cut? With the mentors at loggerheads, alliances splintering and every Rumble capable of changing the game, Playground Season 5 has officially entered its most ruthless phase yet.
