Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14: As part of World Organ Donation Day, KIMSHEALTH conducted a poster-making competition for school students to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation and to inspire people to give others a second chance at life. Themed ‘Organ Donation – Be a Miracle in Someone’s Life,’ the competition drew the participation of over 20 schools from different parts of Thiruvananthapuram. The competition was conducted in the High School and Higher Secondary categories. Following the competition, an awareness programme was also organised at KIMSHEALTH, which was inaugurated by Rishiraj Singh IPS Rtd, former Director General of Prisons.
In his Presidential address, Dr M.I. Sahadulla, Group Chairman and Managing Director, KIMSHEALTH, said,
“Organ donation is one of the noblest acts of giving. By donating organs, we not only give a patient a new lease of life, but at the same time offer hope to an entire family. Creating awareness among the younger generation is an important step towards building a society that understands the value of organ donation.”
“In many Western countries, cadaveric organ donation is governed by the principle of presumed consent. India, too, should consider adopting a similar framework to encourage organ donation and make the gift of life available to patients awaiting transplant,” said Rishiraj Singh in his inaugural address.
In the Higher Secondary category, Pawan won the first prize, Alma Angel, the second and Nikitha S Anil the third prize. In the High School category, Helen Joseph bagged the first prize, Joel Linoj and Arya Nanda secured second and third prize respectively.
Dr. Deepa Das, Senior Consultant, Critical Care, welcomed the gathering. E M Najeeb, Co- founder, KIMSHEALTH and Dr. Noble Gracious, Executive Director, KSOTTO, offered felicitations. Dr.Ajmal Abdul Kharim, Consultant, Critical Care, proposed the vote of thanks.
