18th July 2024- The much-anticipated trailer for Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Abhishek Banerjee, has been unveiled. Picking up from where the first film left off in 2018, the new instalment in this horror-comedy franchise takes us back to the haunted town of Chanderi. However, this time, the terror comes not from the spirit of ‘Stree’, but from a new monstrous entity.
In Stree 2, the residents of Chanderi, including familiar faces like Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana, are on a mission to combat this new menace. Tamannaah Bhatia also makes an appearance in the trailer. The narrative begins with Pankaj Tripathi’s character, Rudra Bhaiya, introducing the new threat, a headless monster named ‘Sarkata’. Shraddha Kapoor’s character, who was the malevolent spirit in the first film, returns to aid the townspeople in their battle against this new terror.
The trailer offers a seamless blend of scares and laughs, featuring glimpses of the deadly ‘Sarkata’ while also delivering humorous one-liners that promise to entertain. One standout moment in the trailer is Rudra Bhaiya’s humorous remark about ‘Sarkata’ being an influencer seeking to increase his followers in Chanderi.
The first film, Stree, was a major box-office success in 2018, with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. It ended on a cliffhanger, showing Shraddha’s character holding the ponytail of the evil spirit and merging it with her own, hinting at more chaos to come.
Abhishek Banerjee, who reprises his role as Jana in Stree 2, expressed his excitement about returning to the character. “I am thrilled to bring Jana back to the screen alongside some of the industry’s finest talents. This character has a special bond with the audience, and I am committed to delivering my best once again. The love I get for the character even today, especially among kids, is truly endearing,” Banerjee shared.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Stree 2 is set to hit cinemas on Independence Day, August 15. The film will face a box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. With its mix of horror and comedy, Stree 2 promises to be an exciting continuation of the beloved franchise.
